Signal: named, not just found

AI personal branding, measured by whether the assistants name you

Ask ChatGPT for the best person in your field, in your city. Then ask Gemini and Perplexity. Whoever they name is getting the first call, and that person may never have shown up on page one of Google.

Our AI personal branding work has one scoreboard: how often those assistants name you, and what they say when they do. Everything else on this page is how we move that number without faking anything, and why being plainly human is now part of the method.

The future of branding is being more human 4:15A raw, unedited case for the human side of branding: as feeds fill with generated video and text, the imperfect real person becomes the one people trust.

Being found and being named are different results

The direct answer: AI personal branding is the work of getting AI assistants to mention you, correctly, when someone asks about your field. It depends on three things those assistants can check: what your own site says about you, what independent sources say about you, and whether those agree. Posting volume barely enters into it.

Search engines show a list and let the reader choose. Assistants choose for the reader and name only a handful of people. That changes the economics. Being eleventh on Google costs you some clicks. Not being among the names in an answer means you were not in the room.

Person Engine Optimization, the name for this work

We use the term Person Engine Optimization, PEO, for optimising a person rather than a page for the engines people now ask. It is deliberately close to SEO, because much of the craft carries over: clear sources, consistent facts, structured data. What changes is the unit. SEO asks whether a page ranks. PEO asks whether a person is named, and described correctly, by Google, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and whatever comes next.

Your source

A home page for your name that says plainly who you are and links every profile, with Person schema to make it machine readable.

Their sources

Independent pages that describe you: interviews, bylines, books, directories in your field, conference pages.

Agreement

The same name, role and one-line description across all of them, so an assistant has nothing to reconcile.

The full service, including the technical side, is on our AI visibility optimization page.

Measure it before you change anything

The most useful thing you can do today costs nothing. Ask four assistants the question your best client would ask, and write down who gets named. Do it again next month. The log below keeps the questions consistent so the comparison is fair.

AI share-of-answer log

Ask four assistants the same buyer question and record who gets named. Run it monthly. The trend matters more than any single answer.

Answers vary between runs and between accounts, so treat one result as a sample, not a verdict. A trend over three months tells you far more. If you want a fuller picture, the free AI visibility checker and the do-it-yourself audit go further.

The human edge, with numbers behind it

The lead video on this page was recorded on a phone, with no edit and no b-roll. That is a deliberate choice, and the argument in it is the second half of our method: as more of what people read is generated, the visibly human source becomes the trusted one.

Trust research supports the instinct. Edelman's 2026 Trust Barometer found people trust those close to them, their own employer and their own CEO, more than they trust institutions in general.

For AI personal branding this means two things. First, the record about you should be written by people who know you, not generated in bulk. Second, video and first-person writing are worth more than they were, because they are harder to fake and easier to recognise as yours.

How an engagement runs

  1. BaselineTwenty buyer questions across four assistants and Google AI Mode, logged word for word.
  2. DescriptionOne agreed line about you, plus three facts anyone can verify.
  3. Home pageYour own About page rewritten or built, with structured data linking your profiles.
  4. Independent sourcesA shortlist of interviews, bylines and listings that describe you in someone else's words, and help to win them.
  5. Consistency passLinkedIn, speaker bios, author pages and directories aligned to the same description.
  6. Monthly logThe same twenty questions, every month, with a plain report of who was named.

For examples of names we have helped become recognisable entities, see the entity SEO case studies. For LinkedIn specifically, our LinkedIn page covers writing that answers quote.

About the videos

The strategist in the videos is Bhavik Sarkhedi: three-time entrepreneur, author of 21 books, twice published in The New York Times, and the subject of a verified Google Knowledge Panel. He has been writing and building search presence since 2014, and says plainly in the lead video that he expects the next decade to reward people who look and sound real.

"The more human you will be, the more trustworthy you will look."

We built this page's method around that bet, and around the measurement that keeps it honest. His full channel is at youtube.com/@bhavik_sarkhedi.

Questions about being named by AI

How do I get ChatGPT to mention me?

Make sure there are sources it can trust that describe you consistently: your own site, independent articles and interviews, and well-kept profiles. Then measure regularly. There is no setting or submission form; our guide to being mentioned by ChatGPT covers the details.

Why does AI name my competitor and not me?

Usually because more independent sources describe them, in clearer words, for the question being asked. Check what those sources are; they show you where the gap is.

Is AI personal branding just using AI to write posts?

That is one meaning, and not ours. Writing more posts with AI rarely changes what assistants say about you, and generated text is easy for readers to spot. We focus on the sources assistants read.

Can you guarantee I will be named?

No. Assistants change how they choose sources, and answers vary run to run. We guarantee the work and an honest monthly log of the results.

Which assistant matters most?

The one your buyers use. For most professional services that is ChatGPT and Google's AI features, with Perplexity strong among researchers. We track all of them because the leader changes.

What should I do first?

Run the share-of-answer log on this page, then email the team with the results. We will tell you which source would move the answer most.

Send us the answer you got. We will tell you why.

Run the log above, or just ask one assistant who leads your field. Email us what it said, and we reply with the sources that shaped it.

Or write to wr.sarkhedi@gmail.com. The email opens with a short note already written; add a line about you and send.
